Long-Standing Tradition and Rustic Luxury at a Fishing Camp on Quebec’s Grand Cascapédia

Tucked into the vast wildness of Quebec’s Gaspé Peninsula, the Grand Cascapédia is world-renowned for its fishing. Some of the largest Atlantic salmon ever caught on a fly rod have been pulled out of the Grand, and if you’re into that kind of thing, Middle Camp is a dream destination.

It so happens that Bartlett & Associates founder and principal designer Inger Bartlett is into just that kind of thing. Inger had been spending week-long fishing trips at the boutique camp for more than a decade when she was commissioned to design the interior of a seven-bedroom lodge. The new building required a vision that would respect the camp’s history and reflect the architectural tradition of the surrounding buildings, which date back as far as the 1870s.

The design achieves a careful balance of rustic charm and five-star comfort. A pine-clad interior was the starting point, and the designers allowed the place to set the tone. At the heart of the lodge, a towering fireplace built from river stones soars through the two-storey common room. Custom chandeliers swing overhead while an oversized leather sofa and chairs, shipped from Elte in Toronto, provide plenty of cozy spots to lounge by the fire after a long day on the river.

Upstairs, the bedroom suites are equally cozy. Each boasts custom wood furnishings – including nightstands, vanities, headboards and window seats – designed by our team and built by local craftsmen. The bespoke nature of the furnishings and a variation in the accessories and lighting add unique character to each room.
