Mill Street
An Industrial Facility Transformed into a Sleek and Polished Workspace
Despite the hint of industrial edge, you’d never guess that this clean, contemporary workspace adjoins a massive beer-making facility. The offices at craft beer brand Mill Street’s east Toronto brewery play up the building’s inherent character. Original concrete floors, updated with a slight polish, feature throughout. Black-framed glass walls that recall industrial garage doors define open office areas and meeting rooms.
Wood makes for a tactile signature material, appearing throughout the space, including on the surface of the butcher-block reception desks. Rough textured beer barrels lend a decorative touch to the reception area’s largest wall and even the workstations feature a wood-grained surface.
While B|A is known for combining natural materials with biophilic features and imagery in its projects, Mill Street has its own firmly established branding that needed to be expressed in the interior. Alongside the wood, the red and white of the brand’s logo dominate the palette, balanced with a cool charcoal we selected to complement these tones.
On the upper level, a series of small offices and meeting rooms lines a hall that leads to a generous Town Hall modelled, naturally, after a bar. Offering plenty of open floor space for seated assemblies, the company’s in-house taproom is an ideal venue for all-staff meetings, educational presentations and new product launches or tastings.
